Mikhail Gorbachev was born March 2, 1931, in Privolnoye, Russia.
Gorbachev studied for a Degree in law at Moscow University.
Mikhail joined the communist party while in University and rose through the ranks.
Gorbachev soon became agricultural administrator his region, and in 1970 Gorbachev was elected to the Supreme Soviet.
Mikhail was then elected to the Soviet Politburo in 1980.
Gorbachev eventually became the General Secretary in the Politburo.
His reforms eventually led to the collapse of the Soviet Union.
In 1990, Mikhail Gorbachev was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
