Mungo Park was born September 20, 1771, Scotland.
Mungo earned a surgical diploma from the University of Edinburgh.
Park was part of a voyage to Benkulen in 1792, during a stint as the assistant-surgeon on board the "Worcester" East Indiaman.
Park was then employed to explore the course of the Niger River.
By June, 1795, Park had reached the Gambia.
Mungo, then ascended the river, till he eventually made his way inward.
At one stage, Park was captured and held prisoner for four months.
He eventually reached the Niger at Segu.
Mungo Park died in 1806.
