VERNEY CAMERON BIOGRAPHY

Verney Lovett Cameron, was born July 1, 1844, in Radipole, Dorset, England.

In 1868, as part of the British Navy, he took part in a voyage to Ethiopia.

In 1873, the Royal Geographical Society sent Cameron to relieve Livingstone. On arrival, Verney found Livingston was dead. Cameron then recovered his papers and continued on with the exploration. Verney became the first European to cross equatorial Africa.

Explored the Gold Coast with Sir Richard Burton in 1882. Verney Cameron died in March 27, 1894, Bedfordshire after falling from his horse.
