DOG BREEDS

According to some recent genetic fossil and DNA evidence, it seems that Dogs were domesticated as early as 100,000 years ago. There are now hundreds of Dog Breeds all over the world with that number increasing as new breeds are introduced. Although many people view dogs as part of their family, conversely, dogs seem to view their human companions as members of their pack. Within our daily life different dog breeds fill different roles. Dogs such as greyhounds are used in sporting. German Shepards are used by the police. Beagles are used in hunting and so forth. But most dog breeds are still used just for friendship.

In breeding terms, a male canine is called a dog, a female canine is called a bitch, offspring are called puppies and a group of offspring is called a litter. Because all dogs descend from wolves they are predators and scavengers. All Dog Breeds are also color blind. A dog may have a field of vision of up to 270°, compared to 180° for humans. A Dog can detect sounds as low as the 16 to 20 Hz frequency range and as high as 70,000 to 100,000 Hz. A Dog has nearly 220 million smell-sensitive cells. All dog breeds are carnivores and as such must have a healthy amount of meat in their diet.
