MACULAR EDEMA

Macular Edema is a swelling (edema) in the macula, an area near the center of the retina of the eye that is responsible for fine or reading vision.

The swelling may distort a person's central vision, as the macula is near the center of the retina at the back of the eyeball.

Macular edema is a common complication associated with diabetic retinopathy.

Cystoid macular edema is a type of macular edema that includes cyst formation.
