The substitution of a little old mannikin of the Elf race for a young child.

The changeling grows up always misbehaving and crying.

But at the same time gives little hints as to it`s origin.

The changeling sometimes gave himself away by giving unthinking reference to his real age.

Getting rid of him usually involved dropping him in the river.
