The first part of its name is taken from New York state, where it was bred in 1983.
The breed was created by colour-selecting domestic longhaired cats.
The York is a real lap cat and loves to be cuddled.
Yet they are also a very playfull and energetic cat.
The breeds colours are chocolate and white, lavender and white, solid chocolate or solid lavender.
