The Somali Cat originated from the longhaired kittens in litters
of Abyssinians who carried the gene for long hair.
The breed appeared in the 1950s from Abyssinian breeding programs.
The Somali has a medium long, graceful and well muscled body,
with proportionate legs. The large eyes are gold, hazel, or
green.
The color varieties for the Somali include red, ruddy, blue
and fawn. The hair is completely ticked, except for on the
underside. This breed is not completely developed until the
age of 18 months.
