On December 1, 1915, John Hertz founded the Yellow Cab taxicab service.
Hertz left in 1929, to form the rental car company, Hertz Rent-a-Car.
The company was purchased by Morris Markin.
In 1996, the company was sold again.
In 1924, the Yellow Cab Group in Australia was founded.
Yellow Cab is the oldest cab management and services provider company in the United States.
The color and name, yellow, was selected after a survey by the University of Chicago had shown yellow was the easiest color to spot.
It was Hertz that convinced the City of Chicago to invest in traffic lights.
