The origins of the Mitsubishi car can be traced back to 1917, when Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. produced the Mitsubishi Model A car.
The car was completely hand-built and only 22 were made.
In 1934, The Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was created after a series of mergers.
But at the end of world war two, the company was split in three with a focus on motor vehicle development.
During the 1960`s Mitsubishi moved into family car production.
In 1964, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was formed.
In 1970, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) was formed.
In 1971, Chrysler took a 15% share in the company, but this later lead to some friction.
By 1980, production had exceeded one million cars a year.
In 1988, Mitsubishi Motors went public.
Expansion into other countries quikly followed.
Chrysler eventually sold its interest in Mitsubishi Motors.
