Citroën Car History

André Citroën was born in 1878. In 1905, he founded the "André Citroën & Cie" company. During World War One, Citroën produced grenades for the French Ministry of Defence. In 1919, Citroën produced its first automobiles, the conventional type A model. Citroën Taxis appeared on the streets of Paris In 1921.

Citroën would later produce toy cars to capture the furture attention of children. In 1965, Citroën took control of French carmaker Panhard. Citroën went on to purchase Maserati. After suffering severe financial losses, Peugeot SA purchased a 90% stake in Citroen SA, with both companies eventually combining to form PSA Peugeot Citroën.
