Founded in 1907 by Cavaliere Ugo Stella and French automobile firm Alexandre Darracq.
Originally named Darracq Italiana, the name was later changed to ALFA.
During World War One there was a halt on manufacturing for three years.
When production resumed in 1919, the company had came under the control of Nicola Romeo.
In 1920, the company name was changed to Alfa Romeo.
After getting into financial problems, Alfa Romeo came under the control of the government.
During World War Two its factories were bombed.
Fiat took control in 1986 and formed "Alfa Lancia Spa".
