Frank Woolworth was born in 1852, in Rodman, N.Y.

In 1979, Woolworth opened his five-cent store in Utica, New York. Although it failed, Woolworth soon opened another store. By 1911, the F.W. Woolworth Company was incorporated. It went on to open stores worldwide

Frank Woolworth died in 1919.
