SIR THOMAS LIPTON

Sir Thomas Lipton was born 10, 1850, in Glasgow.

Lipton started out in business with a Grocery shop which he eventually expanded into a chain of shops. In 1889, Thomas bought a number of plantations in Ceylon (Sri Lanka). It was from these plantations that the now famous "Lipton" tea was formed.

In 1898, Lipton was Knighted.

Sir Thomas Lipton died in London in 1931.
