Edward Richard George Heath was born on July 9, 1916, in St. Peter's, Kent.
Heath was educated at Chatham House Grammar School and Balliol College, Oxford.
During World War 2, Edward served in the Royal Artillery.
He attained the rank of Colonel.
In 1950, Heath was elected to Parliament as a Conservative.
Although he lead the party to a loss in the 1966 general election, Heath lead the party to victory in the 1970 general election.
He served as Prime Minister from 1970-1974.
Edward Heath died on July 17, 2005 in Salisbury, Wiltshire.
He wrote three non-political books, Sailing, Music, and Travels, and an autobiography, The Course of My Life (1998).
The latter took 14 years to produce.
Heath was a keen yachtsman.
He bought his first yacht Morning Cloud in 1969 and won the Sydney to Hobart race that year.
He captained Britain's winning team for the Admiral's Cup in 1971 while Prime Minister and also captained the team in the 1979 Fastnet race.
