Educated Trinity College, Cambridge.
Entered Gray's Inn 1555.
In 1561 married the already married Elizabeth Boyes.
This led to a series of legal and financial difficulties culminating in a spell in debtors' gaol.
From 1572 to 1574 was a soldier in the Netherlands.
His poems and plays were published during his absence without his authority.
On his return he brought out a corrected and augmented edition under the title of "The Posies of George Gascoigne".
