Louisa May Alcott was born November 29, 1832, in Germantown, Philadelphia.
Alcott spent some of her early years working in a series of jobs including governess, teacher, nurse and seamstress.
Louisa also wrote for the Atlantic Monthly.
Louisa May Alcott died in Boston on March 6, 1888, from the effects of mercury poisoning.
