BACH FLOWER REMEDIES

In the early part of the 20th century Dr Edward Bach made a study of patients from which he concluded that harmful emotions such as fear or despair may lead to physical disease. Convinced that flowers could affect one,s state of mind he developed his flower remedies.

By holding his hand over each flower he believed that he could intuitively discern its healing properties. By 1936 Bach remedies were being made commercially.

Bach developed his remedies mainly for self help use. The selection is based on the patients assessment of their own emotional being.

The remedies are not intended to directly relieve the symptoms of an ailment. Bach divided the various moods into seven categories.

Each category is divided into 38 negative feelings. Each one of these is associated with a plant.

The remedies are prepared by infusion with flower heads placed on the surface of pure springwater and left to infuse in direct sunlight for three hours. After the process the water is preserved in brandy.

Bach remedies are sold in concentrated form which should then be diluted. The dose is usually four drops repeated four times a day, dropped on the tongue or rubbed on the lips.
