Some parents prefer children and parents sharing a bed
at night, believing it to be more natural than our society's typical
style of having babies sleep solo in their own rooms. Sharing a bed
has a number of positive and negative aspects.
Some research indicates
that babies who co-sleep may be less at risk for sudden infant death
syndrome (SIDS) than babies who sleep alone.
The key may be that babies who co-sleep keep their breathing in tune
with their parents'.
On the downside are some safety problems. Although you are unlikely to
roll over and harm your baby, pillows and comforters can smother a
baby or he can fall between the bed and the wall, or suffer some less
dramatic injury.
Another drawback to co-sleeping is its potential
effect on your marriage or relationship. This may be okay with one
or both of you, but for some couples it may cause tension.
