ADVANCE AUSTRALIA FAIR
Australians all let us rejoice,
Although the above is the official Anthem it is not the original lyrics of Advance Australia Fair.
Advance Australia Fair was composed by Peter Dodds McCormick in the late 19th century.
The first performance was 30 November 1878, by Andrew Fairfax at a Highland Society function in Sydney on St Andrew's Day.
In 1901, the Anthem was played at the inauguration of the Commonwealth.
The Australian Government awarded Peter McCormick £100 for his composition in 1907.
