An asthma attack may occur at any time.
Asthma attacks may take from a few minutes to a few days to develop.
If someone is having an asthma attack there is a simple four step procedure.
Sit the person upright and provide reassurance and most important stay calm.
Without delay give four separate puffs of reliever medication.
Ask the person to take four breaths from the spacer after each puff of medication.
Wait 4 minutes.
If there is little or no improvement repeat step 2 and 3.
If there is still no improvement or you have concerns at any time call an ambulance immediately.
Continue to repeat steps 2 and 3 while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.
