George Stubbs

George Stubbs: Born: 25 August, 1724, Liverpool, England.

Stubbs was basically self-taught.

Earliest surviving works are 18 plates etched for Dr. John Burton's Essay Towards a Complete New System of Midwifery (1751).

Moved to London in 1760.

Stubbs established himself as a leading painter of portraits of horses.

The Anatomical Works of George Stubbs was published in 1975.

He died in London, England on 10th July, 1806. His last project, begun in 1795, was A comparative anatomical exposition of the structure of the human body with that of a tiger and a common fowl, engravings from which appeared between 1804 and 1806.
