Renaissance Art

The Renaissance Art period was strong from around 1400 to 1600.

The Renaissance started in Italy, then spread throughout northern Europe.

Early Renaissance: 1420 to 1500.

High Renaissance: 1500 to 1530.

Oil paint was used for the first time.

Artists of the Renaissance included, Raphael, Titian, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Hans Holbein, and Pieter Brueghel. Renaissance painting bridges the period of European art history between the art of the Middle Ages and Baroque art. Painting of this era is connected to the "rebirth" (renaissance in French) of classical antiquity, the impact of humanism on artists and their patrons, new artistic sensibilities and techniques, and, in general, the transition from the Medieval period to the Early modern age.
