Eugene Delacroix

Eugene Delacroix: Born: Near Paris, 1798.

Apprenticed to painter "Antoine-Jean Gros".

In 1822, he exhibited in the Paris Salon.

In 1830, he was appointed head of architectural decoration for the city of Paris.

In 1833, Delacroix received a commission to paint a group of murals at the Palais Bourbon.

Died in 1863.

Delacroix's studio in Paris now serves as a museum to his life. Delacroix's use of expressive brushstrokes and his study of the optical effects of color profoundly shaped the work of the Impressionists, while his passion for the exotic inspired the artists of the Symbolist movement.
