Georges Braque

Georges Braque: Born: May 13, 1882.

Studied at the local art school in Le Havre.

He went to Paris in 1900 where he studied at the Académie Humbert, Ecole des Beaux-Arts in the studio of Léon Bonnat. His earliest works were impressionistic, but after seeing the work exhibited by the Fauves in 1905 Braque adopted a Fauvist style.

Braque had a close association with Picasso. Beginning in 1909, Braque began to work closely with Pablo Picasso who had been developing a similar approach to painting. Both artists produced paintings of neutralized color and complex patterns of faceted form, now called Analytic Cubism.

Moved to the coast of Normandy in France around 1930.

Died on August 31, 1963.
