ANTIOXIDANTS

Oxygen is essential for life. But oxygen can also be one of the most destructive forces inside the human body.

If not tightly controlled it is converted into damaging "oxygen radicals". These can sweep through the body like a fire out of control forming free radicals.

These radicals are also toxic substances which cause havic by destroying parts of our body such as membranes, cellular proteins, fats and even our genetic material. Fortunately we can protect ourselves from this biological nightmare with natural protectors called antioxidants.

Some of the most important ones are vitamins A, C, E, Bioflavonoids, zinc, mangenese and selenium. When joints become inflamed as in arthritis, white blood cells gather around the joint and produce oxygen radicals. These radicals can cause pain and damage the joint.

Antioxidents may also help prevent hardening of the arteries and improve circulation. Vitamin C helps to protect the lungs of smokers from emphysema by mopping up free radicals.

People with cataracts have been shown to have lower blood levels of antioxidants compared to those with no cataracts. Antioxidants are also recognized for their role in protecting the brain and nerves from free radicals.

We can also reduce the frequency of most age dependent diseases by ensuring that the body has a good supply of these productive antioxidents. Inspirational Posters
