Anorexia nervosa is a life threatening eating disorder.
It mat be defined by a refusal of the individual to maintain body weight within 15 percent of minimal normal weight.
The disorder may include an intense fear of gaining weight, a distorted body image, and absence of at least three consecutive menstrual cycles when otherwise expected to occur.
Although the term "anorexia" literally means loss of appetite, this isn't a true symptom of the disorder.
People with "anorexia" are, in fact, suppressing a constant strong desire to eat, for fear of becoming fat.
